Getting Married in Bali: A Complete Guide for Foreign Couples

A wedding in Bali is more than beautiful photos — it also involves logistics that can feel overwhelming the first time around. Here are the questions we hear most often from couples planning their Bali wedding.
Legal marriage or symbolic ceremony? Most couples choose a symbolic ceremony in Bali and register their marriage legally back home, either before or after the trip. It's simpler, faster, and avoids the need to apostille foreign documents. A symbolic ceremony has no legal standing, but it gives you full creative freedom over the script, venue, and every detail of the day.
Visas for guests. Citizens of most countries can get a Visa on Arrival valid for 30 days, extendable once. Always check the current requirements on Indonesia's official immigration website before you travel, as rules change from time to time.
When to start planning. We recommend starting preparations 4–6 months in advance. That's enough time to book the best venues (especially during peak season, June to September), confirm vendors, and arrange visas for your guests.
What to bring. A symbolic ceremony doesn't require special paperwork — just valid passports for entry into Indonesia. We provide a full checklist once you book with us.
